Assignment #2

Analysis of Art of Seeing
Group 1:
We really like how they used the Sykes building to represent shape. Moving building to building the children's museum downtown has a wide array of colors bouncing off the walls.  With shades of colors bouncing off the bridge it made the bridge appear to be bigger than normal and gave it emphasis in the image.

Group 2:
As the swimmer dives into the water, it demonstrates movement in the literal meaning. Who said a finger was as big as a building? Well with them showing us that using the camera they could make there finger proportionally the same size. We really enjoyed seeing all of the different locations and how they brought them together to complete the project.

Group 3:
From paintings hanging in the hallway to wondering around campus, group 3 struggled a little bit with the topics but in the end pulled it together with some awesome pictures.

Group 4:
DUCK FACE..... Long out of style but we still love you Ben! All of their groups pictures flow perfectly and fit all the descriptions of each element they are trying to describe.

Group 5:
We love how they use variety and took a picture of the skyline. They were really creative with their pictures and made sure everything was on spot. For proportion it was really cool to see her and how she was proportionally different to the building.

Group 6:
Choosing all the different nations flags to represent color was a really interesting choice. We really like that through all the colors on the flags we are all united under one art element. FOR THE WIN! Thats the emphasis brought to the room by the giant spartan statue in the main entrance of Martinez.

Group 7:
COLORS, COLORS, COLORS. All of this groups pictures are bright and vibrant and that makes them 10000000 times more interesting to read and study. We really like how the incorporate many different things around campus to bring the whole project together.

                                                                     Assignment #4

My pure color
        Hex code - #ccccff
        Rgb (204,204,255)
        Name - Periwinkle

Why did I pick Periwinkle as my color of choice? For me their is a funny story behind it. My dads name is Perry and one time we were in the store buying paint for our house and I asked the guy if they had colors with our names in it, I was 5-6 years old. The guy responded with, "yes, we carry Periwinkle." Ever since then we have joked around with my dad about the color because he absolutely hates it. Every once in a while when we know my dad will not be home for a period of time we have painted a wall in his office. He can not stand when we do this. That is why I chose Periwinkle as my color of choice.

                                                                      Assignment #6
Benjamin Dreiker & Spencer Haberman Super  Market Essay

In the picture you see various colors and objects a lined in rows at a super market. You can see items such as tide detergent, diapers, food, etc. While looking at the picture we have began to feel that this is either taken in America or a first world country based on the excessive amount of objects on sale. This opens our eyes to the amount of over use industrial items we create everyday. As well as the fact that third world countries are not as "lucky" as we are in America, with the choices of products to choose from. In my opinion before the photograph was taken, we feel that the store was preparing for a major holiday or it was being stocked for opening. Although after the picture is taken we feel that people will start buying the products and slowly but surely the items will begin to disappear. We believe that this photograph is conveying that society is so stuck up with the fact that we need to buy industrialized goods. The market place fills its shelves with all these products and they expect us to buy them. While there are people in Africa starving, we are here and buying anything we want at a super market. This picture just opens our eyes to the realization that there are people still starving in other countries, and we are at the luxury of having a super market. Which is in my opinion what the artist was trying to convey.

I really enjoyed talking to him and I took on a whole new perspective on his art. Now that I see the meaning and reasoning that influenced him it brings a whole new understanding to his art. I really liked his reasoning about black and white and how a black and white picture is timeless vs a color one brings us into this century.
